The nuclear security field can be viewed under two major perspectives.  The narrow view, the physical security of nuclear materials, is      predominantly concerned with the “guns, guards, and gates” model. The African Center for Science and International Security advocates a broader view of activities that fall under the “nuclear security” field. This broader interpretation of nuclear security is critically necessary to nurture the interdisciplinary approach needed for an effective and sustainable nuclear security framework, both within countries and across the African continent, in relation to the global nuclear security resolutions and agreements. The African Center for Science and International Security Nonproliferation and Disarmament Program (NDP) increase international understanding of some of the important nuclear energy and nuclear weapons questions in Africa. It strives to foster and strengthen efforts of states and their partners to combat the spread of weapons technology and work towards a world free of nuclear weapons. Read more

The African Center for Science and International Security Space and Satellite Program strengthen national and international efforts to access space application tools and build capacity in basic space technology towards addressing some of Africa’s major development and security challenges.
